Spanish Trial Championship: 2nd round: Chinchilla

Triumph for goes to Dougie Lampkin and team triple to Repsol-Montesa HRC.

Chinchilla (Albacete), 28.03.2004. Repsol-Montesa HRC team riders monopolise the positions of honour in the second round of the Spanish Trial Championship, contested this Sunday. Dougie Lampkin (Montesa-HRC Cota 315R) is the winner, tied by points with Marc Freixa (Montesa-HRC Cota 315R) whom he beat through best partial results.
Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa-HRC RTL 250) has taken third place and registered the lowest score of the trial after recording 15 marks in the second lap.
Laia Sanz, also a rider with the Repsol-Montesa HRC team, finished fourth in the Senior B category, with which she has regained positions in the overall standing of this category, led by Xavier León (Montesa).

Lampkin and Freixa clearly dominated this round right from the beginning, in a trial contested on difficult terrain and in extremely cold weather. At the end of the first lap, they had a substantial advantage over their closest rivals, and in the second lap, Takahisa Fujinami clipped part of the difference separating him from his team-mates and pulled himself up to third place.

Dougie Lampkin: “I'm very pleased with this victory and what it means to achieve it a week before the start of the World Championship. I'm obviously out to defend my Number One status and a result like this does a lot to keep me motivated”.

Marc Freixa: “I only just lost out and I can't really complain because I got to challenge a true world multichampion. Last year I finished third in the world series and it's pretty clear that a result like this guarantees that I'm quite able to be up there again”.

Takahisa Fujinami: “I committed a few errors in the final part of the first lap, but in the second lap I felt much more comfortable and more effective. Getting the lowest score of the whole trial has pleased me no end”.

Laia Sanz: “I felt much better adapted to my Montesa Cota and the result shows that I've clearly advanced compared to the previous trial, even though the conditions were more difficult this time”.

The third scoring round will take place on April 25th in Osuna, Seville.
