Fresh Scottish winner, British Alexz Wigg, Beta, was at his ease on the muddy sections of this third European round, held at Miekinia Krzeszovic, near Krakow, in Poland and took the chance to top the podium in the top class. In the Junior class Pol Tarres, Gasgas, won.
The bad weather did not discourage the great strength of will demonstrated by organizers, who after almost 20 days of heavy rain and disaster flooding in the adjacent areas, kept firmly their intention to discharge their wishes. Terrain apart , obviously incredible wet, the competition was well designed in a small area, easily watching by the spectators.
Even if the day before still rained and same happened until few minutes before the competition started, miraculously the sun shone on the whole event.
It was too late for drying the terrain, but the sections were smartly featured for this conditions. We watched a sort of old-fashion style trial: not high steps, not big jumps, but more technical riding between slippery rocks and on wood roots.
The experienced done in riding and winning the Scottish Six Days a couple of weeks earlier was decisive. Wigg rode one step above the two contenders that finished tied behind. Jack Challoner on Beta, and Matteo Grattarola, scored nearly the double of points than Wigg. Challoner had one clean more, so beat Grattarola, whose riding was quite nervous, depending probably by his not appreciating this kind of obstacles, too trickery.
Anyway Grattarola is still leading the overall standing 5 points ahead of Challoner.
More fought the Junior class. Three riders had the same chances to win. Pol Tarres, Jack Sheppard and Giacomo Saleri left far behind all the others. At the end the Spanish one cleaning the difficult section 15, took home his first win. British Sheppard finished second and kept the leadership in the championship standing, Just one point more for Saleri, third in the championship, too.
Unlucky Italian Ismael Catalin, retired for an accident at section one of the first lap. Nothing serious, just a bruise on his shoulder. Swedish Liljeblad won the Over-40 class, while Polish Topor-Madri triumphed in the International class.

Grattarola terzo, mantiene la leadership in campionato! Fresco vincitore della Scottish, l’inglese Alexz Wigg, su Beta, si e’ trovato a suo agio nelle zone fangose della terza prova dell’Europeo, disputato a Miekinia Krzeszovic, vicino a Cracovia, in Polonia ed ha colto l’occasione per salire sullo scalino piu’ alto del podio. Nella Junior vittoria di Pol Tarres, Gasgas.
Il brutto tempo non ha scoraggiato la grande forza di volonta’ degli organizzatori, che nonostante quasi 20 giorni di pioggia intensa e varie inondazioni nelle aree adiacenti, hanno voluto fermamente portare a termine il loro obbiettivo.
Terreno a parte, ovviamente inzuppato all’inverosimile, la gara e’ stata ben strutturata in una piccola area, facilmente visibile agli spettatori. Anche se alla vigilia e’ ancora piovuto ed ha continuato fino a poco prima della partenza, miracolosamente il sole ha accompagnato l’intero evento.
Troppo tardi per asciugare il suolo, ma le zone erano state intelligentemente tracciate tenendo conto di queste condizioni. Una specie di Trial vecchio stile: nessun scalino alto o grandi salti, piuttosto passaggi tecnici su rocce viscide e radici scivolose.
L’esperienza vissuta nel correre e vincere la Scottish 2 settimane fa e’ stata determinante. Wigg ha guidato uno scalino piu’ in alto dei due pretendenti al titolo, che sono finiti pari alle sue spalle. Jack Challoner su Beta, e Matteo Grattarola, Sherco, han girato a quasi il doppio dei punti di Wigg. Challoner ha poi battuto per uno solo zero Grattarola, la cui guida e’ apparsa molto nervosa, probabilmente dovuta al non aver particolarmente gradito il tipo di ostacoli. Comunque Grattarola guida ancora il campionato, 5 punti davanti a Challoner.
Piu’ combattuta la classe Junior. Tre piloti se la sono giocata fino all’ultimo: Pol Tarres, Jack Sheppard e Giacomo Saleri hanno staccato tutti gli altri . Alla fine lo spagnolo ha prevalso, passando a zero nella difficile zona 15. L’inglese Sheppard e’ ancora leader in campionato, pur arrivando secondo. Un solo punto in piu’ per Saleri terzo nella “generale”.
Sfortunato Ismael Catalin, ritirato a causa di una caduta alla zona 1 del primo giro. Niente di serio, solo una brutta botta alla spalla. Prossima gara il 13 guigno in Andorra. .
