Is the 2011 European Championship going to be a private affair between Jack Challoner and Matteo Grattarola ?
After the engaging duel seen in the first Italian round, ended in favour of English rider by one single point, Civita Castellana, in the center of Italy, not far from Rome, venue chosen for the first European round, could give Grattarola the chance for his desired revenge. Vice-champion last year, when lost the title at the last round after having led it from the beginning, Italian rider, who moved to team SPEA Gas Gas, wants to start on the right foot. Same colours for Challoner, still belonging to Miton Top Trial Team.
But we can not forget some possible outsiders as Spanish Alfredo Gomez, riding Montesa, always protagonist in the rounds disputed in the last season or Italian Francesco Iolitta, who found new motivations riding for Promotor Team.
In the 125 cc class, the odds are on an other Italian-English challenge: Giacomo Saleri and Jack Sheppard, both riding Italian Beta.
Nearly 110 riders has already entered. That’s means a very good start for the twentieth edition of the UEM Trials Championship, this year richer in number of rounds. One more, seven in total.
After this start on Sunday, the circus will join again in Germany, at Gefrees on the 14th of May. One month later the appointment is in Spain, at Pobladura de ias Regueras, on the 18th of June, followed by La Rabassa, Andorra one week later. Again on Italian soil on 9th of July at Montecrestese and at last in the East Europe. On 28th of August in Czech Republic and on 3rd of September in Poland, at Myslenice.
Professor Anders Minken, new responsible of Trial inside the UEM, assured nothing will change in the rules concerning the time limit for riding the section and the start order. On the contrary, section inspection by foot won’t be allowed during the competition. Only the day before.

Sarà battaglia fra Jack Challoner e Matteo Grattarola anche all’Europeo?
Dopo l’avvincente duello offerto all’Italiano di Giaveno, conclusosi con una sola penalità di vantaggio a favore dell’inglese, Civita Castellana, in provincia di Viterbo, che avrà l’onore di ospitare domenica prossima la prima prova dell’Europeo, potrebbe offrire a Grattarola l’occasione per la desiderata rivincita. Per il giovane lecchese vice-campione 2010 , che aveva visto sfumare il titolo proprio all’ultima gara, dopo aver condotto per tutto il campionato, sarà importante partire bene, ora che ha cambiato i colori, passando alla GasGas del Team SPEA. Challoner, invece sarà al via sempre su Beta, preparata dal Miton Top Trial Team.
Ma attenti allo spagnolo Alfredo Gomez, alla guida di una Montesa, sempre protagonista nelle prove che ha disputato nella scorsa stagione ed al nostro Francesco Iolitta, che ha trovato nel team Promotor nuove motivazioni per far bene.
Nella categoria riservata alle moto di 125 cc, i favori del pronostico vanno verso un nuovo duello italo-inglese fra Giacomo Saleri e Jack Sheppard, entrambi alla guida dell’italiana Beta.
Un week-end pasquale ricco di gare, perche’ al sabato saranno di scena i giovanissimi della Youth Cup e le ragazze, fra cui la pluricampionessa de mondo Laia Sanz.
Circa 110 piloti hanno gia’ inviato l’iscrizione. Un ottimo inizio per la ventesima edizione di un campionato che quest’anno si arricchisce di una prova. Saranno sette in totale.
Dopo l’esordio di domenica, il circus si ritrovera’ in Germania, a Gefrees in 14 maggio. Un mese dopo in Spagna a Pobladura de ias Regueras il 18 giugno. Appena una settimana e ecco La Rabassa nel principato d’Andorra, quindi nuovamente sul suolo italico il 9 luglio a Montecrestese e gran finale nell’Est al 28 agosto in Repubblica Ceca a Tanvald ed il 3 settembre a Myslenice.
Il professor Anders Minken, neo responsabile del Trial nella UEM, ha assicurato che i regolamenti per quanto concerne il tempo in zona e l’ordine di partenza non subiranno modifiche. L’ispezione in zona dei piloti, invece, non sara’ piu’ possibile in gara, ma solo il giorno prima.
