25/07/11-UEM Trials Championship: Tanvald, CZE
European riders diverted by women world riders in the last round?
Next Sunday at Tanvald, North of Czech Republic the 2011 UEM Championship is closing shop and the two most important titles are still to be assigned. But in the same competition for the absolute first time it will be run the second round of the FIM women’s world championship. Knowing that the week before in Germany, the women at the first round were 34, it is going to have a competition with a large number of entries. But riders who can clinch the titles still up for grabs won’t be diverted by this new experiment.
Two British ones led Europe and Junior classes, 6 points ahead of two Italians. Jack Challoner (Beta) in the top class, who started the championship with 3 victories in a row, but concluded only in eight place in the last round, must defend his lead by Matteo Grattarola (Gas Gas) in great form in the lately time. Very close the number one challenger, two Spanish riders have still good chances for topping competition and championship: Alfredo Gomez and Francesc Moret, both riding Montesa.
Not less uncertain the Junior class where the just crowned World Champion in the Youth class, Jack Sheppard (Beta) will receive the attack from Giacomo Saleri (Beta) winner of the last round and confident to fight again for top position. French Cedric Tempier (Sherco) is 10 points behind Saleri, so unlikely he will be able to grab the crown, but with his country mate Steven Coquelin (Gas Gas) and Swedish Eddie Karlsson (Gas Gas) - who even miss one round due to school commitments - will fight until the last section to reach any rostrum position.
Lastly, Italian Andrea Buschi (Ossa), already champion the Over 40 class will try to fix a hardly beatable record: six wins in six round. Very open the battle for final runner up place; Three riders have the same chances, because only 3 best results count for the final standings. Dutch John Van Veelen (Ossa), Finnish Staffan Floessel (Sherco) and French Philippe Bontemps (Gas Gas).
On Saturday it will take place the third and last round of the Youth Cup and Women. Winner of the previous twos respectively Steven Coquelin and Laia Sanz (Montesa) are expected to confirm their high performances.
