21/05/16 - Peace brothers swept first day in Breal!

English brothers swept the main classes in the second round of the FIM Europe Trials Championship, held in Breal sous Montfort, Bretagne, France. Dan and Jack Peace both triumphed by one single point in Europe class and Junior class, respectively. Worried for possible rain, organizers kept the level of the 15 sections quite low. Rain did not come and all the riders have to ride very concentrated because one single mistake would be fatal.

Unfortunately during the inspection of the sections the day before, one of the favorite for winning, Spanish Francesc Moret fell and broke the metacarpus bone in his right hand. Moret was not able to compete.

His first rival and leadership of championship, compatriot Miquel Gelabert (Sherco) started soon very strong and cleaned the whole first lap, but Dan Peace (Gas Gas) was very close, dropping 2 marks. In third an other Englishman, Iwan Roberts (Beta) whose score was 7. In the second loop, dramatic turn of events. Gelabert made a mistake in section 8, that costed him 3 heavy points, plus one dab in section 11, meant a total of 4. Cool and focused in each section, Peace lost only one point in this loop and overtook Gelabert. Good loop for Roberts, too (1 point) who enforced his third place.

On the contrary in Junior class Jack Peace (Gas Gas) started soon very strong and cleaned the first lap. But he was not the only one! Even Frenchman Arthur Rovery (Sherco) did the same. Italian's Sergio Piardi (Beta) and Luca Corvi (Scorpa) were just behind with 2 points each. Jack Peace was not able to repeat his superb performance in second loop and scoring 2 marks risked to be reach by the two Italian's, both able to let one single mistake. Disaster for Rovery, who threw away any podium position, scoring 6 points. So same podium of Pietramurata with only second and third places inverted.

Still leader in the Over 40 class, German Markus Kipp (Beta) who scored just one single point in the whole competition. Behind him, tied after the first loop, there were Dutch John Van Veelen (Scorpa) and Slovakian Vladimir Kothay (Beta), having scored 2 points. Decisive the second part to assign the runner-up position. Van Veelen scored 3, against the “4” of Kothay, and finished in second place.

French Adrien Vergnant (Gas Gas) and German Timmy Hippel (Beta) won quite easily the International class 1 and 2, respectively.

To-morrow there will be an other round on the same sections, probably a bit modified.
