20/10/21 - Women together with Vintage Motorcycles: could it still be feasible? -

Observing the scores of the women's category of the last Italian championship round, some reflections arise spontaneously. The new Italian champion Andrea Sofia Rabino beat a stubborn Sara Trentini in the last zone: their penalties 71 to 76. Third, the outgoing champion Martina Gallieni with 83 errors, the fourth and fifth 100 and 102 points.

The elite of the Italian female class runs on the yellow-green gates, because this is the will of the girls, always eager to improve also in terms of participation in international competitions where the level is very high: even more this year in which Laia Sanz is back and together with Emma Bristow and the young promise Berta Abellan are showing great courage and skill .

Unfortunately, however, the downside of tracing very hard and selective races is always to discourage those who can't keep up or who could have tried, but got scared. In the heyday of the Trial it was a source of pride to have finished a very tough race. Not only did the zones contribute to the overall hardness but also the loop was often at the limit.

But those were other times: suffering to reach a goal was normal. Nobody gave anything away for free. And our sport could count on consistent numbers of practitioners, so if you lose someone on the road, because they did not consider the suffering sufficiently rewarded, patience ...

Today it is necessary to look around and count yourself. In Italian TR1 there are 6 riders left. At the world championship in TrialGP there are 10. In Piedmont where only twenty years ago the Regional had almost 200 participants, today they are about a quarter. By continuing like this there is no future. The base has to be rebuilt and can only be done by encouraging the club-members through easy tenders. Why is the Trial Vintage market going against the trend and continues to count competitions overflowing with participants?

Just this type of Trial, the one of the past, the one on which we have just enthusiastically supported the initiative of the ASI Promotion Body to promulgate a National Trophy to include even those bikes not covered by the FMI Historical Register, could, in our opinion, open to the fair sex. Not to those "bionics" who proudly compete in the Italian Championship, to all the others, those who would have liked to race but are "suffocated" in categories where it is difficult to emerge.

There was a precedent, as it was absolutely not a flop. For four years on the slopes of Monte Vandalino in Torre Pellice, where the first Italian world round was held in 1975, there was an international women's competition, preparatory for the International Federation to establish then a world championship.

From 1997 to 2000, this competition - which had a growing number of girls from all over the world and of which Phototrial was an active part in the organization - was combined with a Vintage Trial. There are two categories: one easy and one medium. Two laps with 15 sections each. Between Women and Vintage Bikes it has always been possible to count on at list eighty competitors, but above all on all occasions the combination has attracted a fair number of spectators, even the 1999 edition held under a flood.

The proposal that comes spontaneously evoking that period is whether some issues cannot still be topical today. In common the lovers of vintage races with the possible girls who want to approach competitions have the denominator of finding easy, non-dangerous sections. Selective zones can be traced even without resorting to the spectacular boulder but which exposes to dangers for those who face it.

A return to the Trials where the winner does it scoring very few points and if he/she is not happy he/she can be offered to move up to the higher category and if he/she is already in the Top, then he/she is ready for the Italian championship! Let's meditate…

Donne insieme alle Moto d'Epoca : potrebbe essere ancora fattibile?

Osservando i punteggi della categoria femminile dell'ultima gara di campionato italiano ci sorgono spontanee delle riflessioni. La neo-campionessa italiana Andrea Sofia Rabino ha battuto all'ultima zona una caparbia Sara Trentini: 71 a 76 le loro penalità. Terza, la campionessa uscente Martina Gallieni con 83 errori, la quarta e la quinta 100 e 102 punti.

L'elité della classe femminile italiana corre sui percorsi giallo-verdi, perchè questa è la volontà delle ragazze, sempre desiderose di migliorarsi anche in funzione di partecipazioni a competizioni internazionali dove il livello è molto alto: ancora di più quest'anno in cui è tornata Laia Sanz e insieme a Emma Bristow e la giovane promessa Berta Abellan stanno dando prova di grande coraggio e abilità.

Purtroppo però il rovescio della medaglia di tracciare gare molto dure e selettive è sempre quello di scoraggiare chi non regge il passo o chi avrebbe potuto provare, ma si è spaventato. Ai tempi d'oro del Trial era un motivo d'orgoglio l'aver concluso una gara durissima. Non solo le zone contribuivano alla durezza complessiva ma anche il trasferimento era spesso al limite.

Ma erano altri tempi: soffrire per raggiungere un obiettivo era normale. Nessuno regalava nulla. E il nostro sport poteva contare su numeri consistenti di praticanti, per cui se si perdeva qualcuno per strada, perchè non avesse ritenuto la sofferenza sufficientemente ripagata, pazienza...

Oggi è necessario guardarsi intorno e contarsi. In TR1 sono rimasti 6 piloti. Al mondiale in TrialGP sono 10. In Piemonte dove solo una ventina di anni fa il Regionale contava quasi 200 partecipanti, oggi sono circa un quarto. Continuando così non c'è un futuro. Si deve ricostruire la base e lo si può fare solo incoraggiando i licenziati attraverso gare facili. Perchè il mercato dei Trial Vintage è in contro tendenza e continua ad annoverare all'estero gare stracolme di partecipanti?

Proprio questo tipo di Trial, quello di una volta, quello su cui abbiamo appena sostenuto con entusiasmo l'iniziativa dell'Ente di Promozione ASI di promulgare un Trofeo nazionale per inglobare anche quelle moto non contemplate dal Registro Storico FMI, potrebbe, secondo noi, aprire al gentil sesso. Non a quelle “bioniche” che si sfidano orgogliosamente nel Campionato Italiano, a tutte le altre, quelle a cui sarebbe piaciuto correre ma sono “soffocate” in categorie dove è difficile emergere.

Un precedente c'è stato, non rilevandosi assolutamente un flop. Per ben quattro anni sulle pendici del Monte Vandalino a Torre Pellice, dove si è tenuta la prima prova mondiale italiana nel 1975, c'è stata una gara internazionale femminile, propedeutica per la Federazione Internazionale per poi istituire un riconoscimento mondiale.

Dal 1997 al 2000, tale gara - che ha avuto un crescente numero di ragazze provenienti da tutti i Paesi del mondo e di cui Phototrial è stato parte attiva nell'organizzazione - è stata abbinata ad un Trial d'Epoca. Due le categorie: una facile e una media. Due giri con 15 zone controllate l'uno. Tra Donne e Moto d'Epoca si è sempre potuto contare su un'ottantina di concorrenti, ma soprattutto in tutte le occasioni il connubio ha attirato un discreto numero di spettatori, anche l'edizione del 1999 disputata sotto un diluvio.

La proposta che viene spontanea evocando quel periodo è se alcuni temi non possano essere ancora d'attualità oggi. In comune i cultori delle gare d'epoca con le possibili ragazze che vogliono avvicinarsi alle competizioni hanno il denominatore di trovare percorsi facili, non pericolosi. Si possono tracciare zone selettive anche senza ricorrere al masso spettacolare ma che espone a pericoli per chi lo affronta.

Un ritorno a dei Trial dove chi vince lo fa con pochissimi punti e se non è contento gli si può offrire di passare alla categoria superiore e se è già nella Top, allora è pronto/a per campionato italiano! Meditiamoci …
