21/11/21 - Bou is 30 time World Champion after Barcelona victory

Toni Bou (Repsol Montesa-HRC) achieved his 15th world title with victory in the "Cathedral of X-Trial" against an amazing Gabriel Marcelli (Montesa)

Bou extended his legendary status by taking his 15th consecutive X-Trial World Championship title, taking the crown somewhere he never had before, the X-Trial of Barcelona, in front of 6,100 spectators at the Palau Sant Jordi.

The World Champion took his 14th victory in Barcelona by beating his team mate Gabriel Marcelli in the final. He started with a five-mark maximum in Round One, then finished on top in Round Two and beat Marcelli by 11 marks in the Final.

Marcelli achieved by far the best result of his career, thanka to have defeated Jaime Busto (Vertigo) in Round Two. The Basque rider then fought for third place with Adam Raga (TRRS) who broke the record for most appearances at X-Trial Barcelona: 20th participation. Raga finished third in Round One but was beaten by five marks by Bou in round two.

Miquel Gelabert (Gas Gas) and Matteo Grattarola (Beta) were eliminated in the second Round. The Italian, who was fourth in Andorra la Vella, finished third in his heat as did Gelabert who finished just two points behind Raga.

Jorge Casales (Gas Gas), Toby Martyn (TRRS) and Jeroni Fajardo (Sherco) were eliminated in the first Round.

Toni Bou (1st): “It was fantastic to take the victory and the title in Barcelona, the Cathedral of the X-Trial. I started a bit stiffly in the first Round, but I recovered quickly to come out on top in the second Round and win the final. Winning here, in front of my home crowd, my family and friends, is exceptional and, moreover, it is the first time that I have been crowned World Champion in Barcelona. I am very happy with my 15th world title and to have won both events.”

Gabriel Marcelli (2nd): “I am very happy with such an exceptional result. I felt comfortable throughout the event and I tried to concentrate as much as possible at all times. Last season I was not at my best level and this is the best way to make amends. I have achieved the best result of my career and doing so in Barcelona is especially exciting.”

Adam Raga (3rd):“My goal was to win the Trial and take the title but it was not to be. When I finished third in the first Round, it put me in the same group as Toni for Round Two and I couldn't quite get to the final. It was a demanding Trial in the first two Rounds and a little easier in the rest. Finishing runner-up in the World Championship for the ninth time is an important enough achievement for me because it means I am still at the highest level despite being the oldest rider in the Championship.”.

Bou e' 30 volte csmpione del mondo dopo la vittoria a Barcellona

Toni Bou (Repsol Montesa-HRC) ha ottenuto il suo 15° titolo indoor mondiale con la vittoria nella "Cattedrale di X-Trial" contro uno straordinario Gabriel Marcelli (Montesa)

Bou ha così rafforzato il suo status di leggenda conquistando il suo 15-esimo titolo consecutivo nell'X-Trial World Championship, ??davanti a 6.100 spettatori al Palau Sant Jordi.

Il Campione del Mondo ha battutoo in finale il compagno di squadra Gabriel Marcelli. Aveva iniziato con cinque punti nel primo round, per poi vincere il secondo round e battere Marcelli di 11 punti in finale.

Per Marcelli si è trattatto del miglior risultato della sua carriera, ottenuto sconfiggendo il terzo classificato di Andorra la Vella Jaime Busto (Vertigo) nel secondo round. Il pilota basco ha poi lottato per il terzo posto con Adam Raga (TRRS), alla sua ventesima presenza all'X-Trial Barcelona. Raga è arrivato terzo nel primo round, ma è stato battuto di cinque punti da Bou nel secondo round.

Miquel Gelabert (Gas Gas) e Matteo Grattarola (Beta) sono stati eliminati al secondo turno. Matteo non è riuscito a confermare il quarto di Andorra, perchè terzo nella sua manche così come Gelabert che ha chiuso a due punti da Raga.

Jorge Casales (Gas Gas), Toby Martyn (TRRS) e Jeroni Fajardo (Sherco) sono stati eliminati al primo turno.

Toni Bou (1°): “E' stato fantastico conquistare la vittoria e il titolo a Barcellona, ??la Cattedrale dell'X-Trial. Ho iniziato un po' male nel primo turno, ma ho recuperato velocemente per uscire in testa nel secondo e vincere la finale. Vincere qui, davanti al pubblico di casa, alla mia famiglia e ai miei amici, è eccezionale e, inoltre, è la prima volta che vengo incoronato Campione del Mondo proprio a Barcellona. Sono molto contento del mio 15° titolo mondiale e di aver vinto entrambi gli eventi”.

Gabriel Marcelli (2°): “Sono molto contento di un risultato così eccezionale. Mi sono sentito a mio agio durante l'evento e ho cercato di concentrarmi il più possibile in ogni momento. La scorsa stagione non ero al mio livello migliore e questo è il modo migliore per fare ammenda. Ho ottenuto il miglior risultato della mia carriera e farlo a Barcellona è particolarmente emozionante.”

Adam Raga (3°):“Il mio obiettivo era vincere il Trial e prendere il titolo, ma non è stato così. Arrivando terzo nel primo round, sono finito nello stesso gruppo di Toni per il secondo round e non sono riuscito ad arrivare in finale. E' statoa un Trial impegnativo nei primi due Round e un po' più facile nel resto. Finire secondo nel Campionato del Mondo per la nona volta è un traguardo abbastanza importante per me, perché significa che sono ancora ai massimi livelli, nonostante sia il pilota più anziano del Campionato.
