01/11/21 - ANDREA SOFIA RABINO, TEENAGED TALENT!

The youngest champion to be crowned this year in the Hertz FIM Trial World Championship, 15-year-old Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta) went head-to-head with her compatriot Sara Trentini (Vertigo) at the first three points-scoring events in Italy and France before breaking free in the second half of the season to claim the Trial2 Women title.

A very promising third in her debut season in 2020 with two wins to her name, Rabino was on the podium at every round this year with the up-and-coming Italian star winning four times and finishing second twice to run out winner by a comfortable 23 points.

Andrea Sofia lives in the family, just outside Pinerolo, in the province of Turin and shares the passion, as well as with her father Roberto, a trialist in regional competitions about twenty years ago, with her brother Caroalberto, 4 years older, TR1 pilot in Italy and TRIAL2 at the world championship.

How long have you been riding and why did you start to ride trial? Was it a member of your family who got you into it?
“I started practising at the age of six and it was my dad who passed on the passion to me.”

How does it feel to be Trial2 Women champion?
“To be Trial2 Women champion feels very good because it was my goal.”

At just 15 years old you are one of the youngest competitors in the class – did you see this as a disadvantage at the start of the season?
“No, it is definitely not a disadvantage – in fact it is an advantage because there is more time to grow.”

After three rounds you and Sara were very close. How did you deal with the pressure?
“I had lots of pressure on me but I told myself that the more agitated I was the more likely it was that I would make mistakes so I tried to be as calm as possible.”

Who is your trial hero?
“I am definitely inspired by Laia Sanz because I think she is an excellent rider.”

How far would you like to go in trial and what are your goals for next season?
“My goal for next season is definitely to make the podium in the TrialGP Women category but even being in the top five would make me happy.”

La più giovane campionessa ad essere incoronata quest'anno nell'Hertz FIM Trial World Championship, la quindicenne Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta) ha avuto vita dura per liberarsi dell'altra azzurra, Sara Trentini (Vertigo) soprattutto nelle prime tre prove - le due in Italia e quella in Francia - dove il suo vantaggio era minimo. Solo nella seconda metà della stagione è riuscita ad allungare e conquistare il titolo nella Trial2 Women.

Terza e molto promettente nella sua stagione di esordio l'anno prima, in cui aveva comunque ottenuto due vittorie, Rabino è salita sul podio in ogni round di quest'anno, vincendo in 4 occasioni e arrivando seconda due volte, per finire con un distacco sulla seconda di 23 punti.

Andrea Sofia vive in famiglia, appena fuori Pinerolo, provincia di Torino e condivide la passione, oltre che col padre Roberto, trialista in gare regionali una ventina d'anni fa, col fratello Caroalberto, più vecchio di 4 anni, pilota TR1 in Italia e TRIAL2 al mondiale.

Da quanto tempo e perché hai iniziato a fare il trial? È stato qualcuno della tua famiglia a coinvolgerti?
"Ho iniziato a praticare all'età di sei anni ed è stato mio padre a trasmettermi la passione."

Come ci si sente ad essere campionessa di Trial2 Women?
"Essere campionessa di Trial2 Women mi fa sentire molto bene perché era il mio obiettivo."

A soli 15 anni sei uno dei concorrenti più giovani della classe - hai visto questo come uno svantaggio all'inizio della stagione?
“No, per me non è uno svantaggio, anzi è un vantaggio perché c'è più tempo per crescere.”

Dopo tre round tu e Sara eravate molto vicine. Come hai gestito la pressione?
"Ho avuto molta pressione su di me, ma mi sono detta che più ero agitata più era probabile che avrei commesso degli errori, quindi ho cercato di rimanere calma il più possibile."

Chi è la tua pilotessa preferita?
“Sono decisamente ispirata da Laia Sanz perché penso che sia un'ottima motociclista.”

Fino a che punto vorresti spingerti nel Trial e quali sono i tuoi obiettivi per la prossima stagione?
“Il mio obiettivo per la prossima stagione è sicuramente quello di salire sul podio nella categoria TrialGP Women, ma anche essere tra le prime cinque mi renderebbe felice.”

C'è qualcuno che vorresti ringraziare?
“Sì, vorrei ringraziare Sergio Piardi, Matteo Poli che mi hanno supportato agli eventi, Daniele Maurino che mi ha sostenuto in allenamento e la mia famiglia.”
