09/10/22 -Jaime Busto ends the season winning in Andorra

Jaime Busto (Vertigo) seized the limelight at X-Trial Andorra and ended the 15-victory run set by World Champion Toni Bou (Repsol Honda Team Trial), starting all the way back in Barcelona 2019.

The 16-time World Champion wanted to celebrate his latest world title by ending the season with a win in front of the 2,000 fans that packed out the Poliesportiu d’Andorra, in what’s considered to be his home race, but Busto put a metaphorical spanner in the works after a consistent performance lead him to victory by the smallest of margins.

Busto, Bou and Adam Raga (TRRS) took centre stage in the grand final, after coming out on top in the first two rounds. The battle between the final three, it was the Vertigo rider, who was also fighting for third place in the Championship standings, that took the lead in the second zone after conceding two points but his rivals were penalised with five-point ‘fiascos’.

Raga dropped out the fight to win with two points in the third section and another five in the fourth, whilst Bou got through the remaining four sections without picking up a single point and Busto adding just 2 more points in the fourth. The three point advantage gained in the second zone were key to the Basque rider’s one point margin to seal a great performance and win the Andorra la Vella X-Trial.

Fighting until the bitter end, Bou, who had already secured the World Championship title, got through all six zones in Rounds 1 and 2 without picking up a single point.

The first riders to fall out of contention were Matteo Grattarola (Beta), with a five-point penalty in the last zone of his first run, and Benoit Bincaz (Gas Gas). In the second round Haga (Beta), Marcelli (Montesa) and Martyn (TRRS) were eliminated. Norwegian Haga was tied on points with Raga, beating out Marcelli by just two points and Martyn by three, but falling behind on the timings, illustrating just how tight it was at the last X-Trial of the 2022 season.

Jaime Busto (1st): “ The truth is that I didn't expect to take victory here since I arrived with little chance of finishing third in the Championship, but the truth is that, already in the warm-up I felt very comfortable. In the first round I was nervous at first and made some small mistakes but I felt good and both in the second and in the final I rode very well and all this, combined with a small mistake by Toni, gave me the victory. I am very happy with the win and third place on the final podium of the season.”

Toni Bou (2nd): “ Celebrating a new title of World Championship competing at home and in front of my friends and family has been extraordinary. I think we put on a great show and a very competitive race in which I set the tone in the first two rounds by scoring zero. I was not able to recover from the small mistake in the final and it was this, combined with Jaime's great riding today, that prevented me from winning, but the celebration of the title and the great show today are a great reward”.

Adam Raga (3rd): “ I am very happy to have secured the runner-up position in the World Championship with my performance in this last race. Fighting year after year is hard and this result is once again the result of the effort of the whole team. It was a very close X-Trial, a single mistake could have lead to disaster, but after the first round I secured the world championship position and everything felt different. I not done performing at the highest level since I had discomfort in one arm but I'm satisfied with how things have gone”.

Bustò termina la stagione vincendo in Andorra

A Jaime Busto (Vertigo) vanno le luci della ribalta all'X-Trial di Andorra, e l'onore di interrompere una serie di 15 vittorie ottenute dal campione del mondo Toni Bou (Repsol Honda Team Trial), partendo dal lontano Barcellona 2019. < br />
Il 16 volte Campione del Mondo avrebbe voluto celebrare il suo recente titolo mondiale, chiudendo la stagione con una vittoria davanti ai 2.000 tifosi che hanno schierato la Poliesportiu d'Andorra, in quella che è considerata la sua gara di casa , ma Busto gli ha rovinato la festa, grazie ad una prestazione che lo ha portato alla vittoria con il minimo margine.

Busto, Bou e Adam Raga (TRRS) sono stati protagonisti del gran finale, dopo aver vinto nei primi due round. Nella battaglia tra i tre finalisti, è stato il pilota Vertigo, anch'egli in lotta per il terzo posto nella classifica di Campionato, a passare in testa alla seconda zona. Pur avendo subito due punti, i suoi avversari sono stati penalizzati con 'fiaschi' da cinque punti.

Raga ha abbandonato la lotta per la vittoria con due punti nella terza sezione e altri cinque nella quarta, mentre Bou ha superato le restanti quattro sezioni senza raccogliere un solo punto e Busto aggiungendo solo 2 punti in più nella quarta. I tre punti di vantaggio guadagnati nella seconda zona sono stati fondamentali per il margine di un punto del pilota basco per suggellare una grande prestazione e vincere l'Andorra la Vella X-Trial.

Combattendo fino alla fine, Bou, che si era già assicurato il titolo mondiale, ha attraversato tutte e sei le zone nei Round 1 e 2 senza lasciare un solo punto.

I primi piloti a uscire dalla mischia sono stati il nostro Matteo Grattarola (Beta), con una penalità di cinque punti nell'ultima zona della sua prima manche, e Benoit Bincaz (Gas Gas). Al secondo turno sono stati eliminati Haga (Beta), Marcelli (Montesa) e Martyn (TRRS). Il norvegese Haga era a pari punti con Raga, battendo Marcelli di soli due punti e Martyn di tre, ma rimanendo indietro sui tempi, illustrando quanto fosse stretto nell'ultimo X-Trial della stagione 2022.

Jaime Busto (1°): “La verità è che non mi aspettavo di vincere qui, dato che sono arrivato con poche possibilità di finire terzo in Campionato, ma la verità è che, già nel caldo- su mi sono sentito molto a mio agio. Nel primo giro ero nervoso all'inizio e ho commesso dei piccoli errori ma mi sentivo bene e sia nel secondo che in finale ho guidato molto bene e tutto questo, unito ad un piccolo errore di Toni, mi ha dato la vittoria. Sono molto contento della vittoria e del terzo posto sul podio finale della stagione”.

Toni Bou (2°): “ Celebrare un nuovo titolo mondiale gareggiando in casa e davanti ai miei amici e alla mia famiglia è stato straordinario. Penso che abbiamo dato un grande spettacolo e una gara molto competitiva in cui ho dato il tono nei primi due round segnando zero. Non sono riuscito a recuperare dal piccolo errore della finale ed è stato questo, unito alla grande guida di Jaime di oggi, che mi ha impedito di vincere, ma la celebrazione del titolo e il grande spettacolo di oggi sono una grande ricompensa”.

Adam Raga (3°): “Sono molto felice di essermi assicurato il secondo posto nel Campionato del Mondo con la mia prestazione in quest'ultima gara. Combattere anno dopo anno è dura e questo risultato è ancora una volta il risultato dello sforzo di tutta la squadra. È stato un X-Trial molto serrato, un singolo errore avrebbe potuto portare al disastro, ma dopo il primo round mi sono assicurato la posizione nel campionato del mondo e tutto sembrava diverso. Non ho smesso di esibirmi ai massimi livelli poiché avevo fastidio a un braccio ma sono soddisfatto di come sono andate le cose”.
