09/07/22 - BOU AND BRISTOW EXTENDED THEIR LEADERSHIPS

Toni Bou (Montesa) extended his leadership with a clear win on the first day of Neunkirchen, fifth round of the 2022 Hertz FIM Trial World Championship.

It was held about 100 km from Cologne and it is the first time in Germany to run in this location. After leaving Trial3 at home, the women of Trial 2 made their debut. Half of the sections were on stones very indoor style.

The TrialGP Women class was topped by series leader Emma Bristow (Sherco) after a tense, high-pressure day in the saddle while Pablo Suarez (Montesa) extended his advantage in Trial2 and Sophia Ter Jung (TRRS) took the win on home turf as the Trial2 Women championship kicked off.

Bou built his victory thanks to an excellent first lap concluded with only 16 penalties. Behind him the best was Jeroni Fajardo (Sherco) with 20 followed by Matteo Grattarola (Beta) with 25. Only fourth Adam Raga (TRRS) paired with Miquel Gelabert (Gas Gas) and Jaime Busto, all with one more point.

In the second lap, while Bou proceeded confidently, the positions behind him suddenly alternated. Busto was the best and finished with 13 mistakes, the same as Bou, and earned the runner-up position. Bad Fajardo (24), who slipped to fourth place, ousted from the podium by a constant Grattarola (19).

“I’m super-happy,” said Bou. “It’s great to be back in Germany and this result is very important for the championship. My feeling was very good today.”

It was tight at the top in TrialGP Women with Bristow just one mark ahead of Spain’s Berta Abellan (Scorpa) at the halfway stage.

The 22-year-old from Barcelona has emerged as Bristow’s main challenger this year and won on the first day of competition in Andorra but after completing the first lap on 13 – one behind the British lioness – her challenge fell away.

Instead, Bristow turned up the heat as we’ve come to expect from the seven-time champion and halved her score on lap two to finish on 18 marks, six ahead of Abellan.

“It was a tight day but I felt like I was riding well,” said Bristow. “I had a very unlucky five on the first lap which was annoying but it didn’t affect how I rode for the rest of the day. The sections were good and there is a really great atmosphere here too.”

Last season’s Trial2 Women champion Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta) from Italy made her second visit to the podium in 2022 with third on 42, one ahead of French rider Naomi Monnier (GASGAS) and 11 clear of fifth-placed Huldeborg Barkved (GASGAS) from Norway.

Britain’s Alicia Robinson (Beta) deserves a special mention. The 20-year-old missed the opening two rounds through illness but finally made her class debut today and was a solid sixth on 62.

With 42 entrants, Trial2 is the best-supported class in the championship and today it was the most dramatic after series leader Suarez, who had tailed Sondre Haga (Beta) for most of the day, came out on top when his Norwegian rival scored maximums on the final two sections of the second lap.

After the opening lap Haga led on 12, one better than 2017 Trial3 champion Lorenzo Gandola (Beta) from Italy and nine ahead of Suarez.

On lap two Haga remained consistent but Suarez rode out of his skin to add just an additional two to his score. He still looked likely to end the day in second but Haga fived the final two sections and handed victory to the Spaniard by three marks.

“The first lap was not very good but on the second lap we did an amazing job,” said Suarez. “Last week I sprained my ankle and broke a ligament in my left foot so I was quite worried but it’s been an amazing day for me.”

Spain’s Arnau Farre (Sherco) finished one mark behind Haga to claim his third podium of the season on 27 with Gandola fourth on 32, one mark ahead of British rider Dan Peace (Sherco).

The Trial2 Women riders got their season under way at Neunkirchen and there was a hugely-popular home winner with Ter Jung dropping a total of 13 marks to run out ahead by seven from the Czech Republic’s Denisa Pechackova (Beta) with another German rider – Theresa Bauml (Vertigo) – a further one mark adrift in third.

After the opening lap there was a three-way tie for the lead with Ter Jung, Bauml and Keity Meier (TRRS) from Estonia all locked together on nine before Ter Jung – who finished fourth last season – parted with a paltry four on lap two to seal the deal.

“It feels great to win at home and I like the sections,” said Ter Jung. “I’m really happy and tomorrow I will give my best and try to do it again.”

Pechackova, who was 10th in 2021, also upped her game and added an extra five to her first-lap total of 15 while Bauml picked up an additional 12.

Highly-fancied Sara Trentini (Vertigo) from Italy – who finished as runner-up last year – suffered a stuttering start to the series and ended the day in seventh on a total of 32.

The action resumes tomorrow with the first rider away at 9am.

BOU E BRISTOW ALLUNGANO MA GRATTAROLA SALE SUL PODIO

Toni Bou (Montesa) estende la sua leadership con una chiara vittoria nel primo giorno di Neunkirchen, quinta prova del 2022 Hertz FIM Trial World Championship.

Si è corso a circa 100 km da Colonia ed è la prima volta che in Germania il mondiale si tiene in questa località. Lasciati a casa i Trial3, hanno esordito le donne della Trial 2. Metà delle zone erano su pietroni molto stile indooristico.

Bou ha costruito la sua vittoria grazie ad un ottimo primo giro concluso con sole 16 penalità. Dietro lui il migliore era Jeroni Fajardo (Sherco) con 20 seguito da un grande Matteo Grattarola (Beta) con 25. Solo quarto Adam Raga (TRRS) appaiato a Miquel Gelabert (Gas Gas) e a Jaime Busto , tutti con un punto in più.

Nella seconda tornata, mentre Bou procedeva sicuro, le posizioni alle sue spalle si sono alternate repentinamente. Busto è stato il più bravo e ha chiuso con 13 errori, gli stessi di Bou, e si è guadagnato la piazza d'onore. Male Fajardo (24) scivolato al quarto posto, spodestato dal podio da un costante Grattarola (19).

Ancora un brillante terzo posto per Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta) mentre è di sun soffio fuori dal podio Lorenzo Gandola (Beta).

"Sono super felice", ha detto Bou. “È bello tornare in Germania e questo risultato è molto importante per il campionato. La mia sensazione è stata molto buona oggi”.

In gara anche Luca Petrella (Gas Gas) che ha chiuso come fanalino di coda, dopo aver comunque combattutto alla pari con i piloti che si dividono le posizioni di rincalzo, fra cui Benoit Bincaz e Toby Martyn.

Lotta serrata al top della TrialGP Women con Bristow con un solo punto in meno dalla spagnola Berta Abellan (Scorpa) a metà gara.

La Bristow ha poi alzato il ritmo - come ci si aspetta dalla sette volte campionessa - e ha dimezzato il suo punteggio al secondo giro per finire a 18 punti, sei davanti ad Abellan.

"È stata una giornata difficile, ma mi sentivo come se stessi guidando bene", ha detto Bristow. “Ho avuto un cinque molto sfortunato nel primo giro, il che è stato fastidioso ma non ha influenzato il modo in cui ho guidato per il resto della giornata. Le sezioni erano buone e anche qui c'è un'atmosfera davvero fantastica.”

Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta) ha fatto la sua seconda salita sul podio nel 2022 con il terzo posto a 42, uno davanti alla rivale francese Naomi Monnier (GASGAS) e 11 davanti a Huldeborg Barkved (GASGAS).

Una menzione speciale merita la britannica Alicia Robinson (Beta). La ventenne ha saltato i primi due round a causa di una malattia, ma alla fine ha fatto il suo debutto in classe oggi e ha terminato al sesto posto con 62.

Altra italiana in gara Martina Gallieni (TRRS) che ha concluso al 12° posto.

Con 42 partecipanti, Trial2 è la classe più supportata del campionato. Oggi ha avuto un finale imprevisto: il leader della serie Suarez, dietro a Sondre Haga (Beta) per la maggior parte della giornata, ha fatto un recupero sensazionale, approfittando anche dei due fiaschi del suo rivale norvegese nelle ultime due zone.

Lorenzo Gandola (Beta), secondo a metà gara per un solo punto dietro ad Haga, ha chiuso ai piedi del podio, staccato di 5 punti.

Gli altri azzurri: Gianluca Tournour (Gas Gas), calato nel finale, undicesimo; Carloalberto Rabino (Beta) 12° e Mattia Spreafico 16°.

Tra le atlete Trial2 Women che hanno iniziato la loro stagione qui a Neunkirchen, la vittoria è andata alla locale Ter Jung che ha totalizzato 13 punti. Staccata di sette lunghezze la Ceca Denisa Pechackova (Beta), di un punto davanti alla tedesca Theresa Bauml (Vertigo).

"È fantastico vincere in casa e mi piacciono le sezioni", ha detto Ter Jung. “Sono davvero felice e domani darò il massimo e cercherò di farlo di nuovo.”

Troppe aspettative su Sara Trentini (Vertigo) - seconda l'anno scorso – che ha concluso al settimo posto davanti ad Alessia Bacchetta (Gas Gas).
