16/10/23 - PRICE AND MICHELIN WIN THE 2023 SCOTT TRIAL

Very few riders have won three consecutive Scott Trials but having taken his maiden first win in 2021 it was a very proud and elated Jack Price riding the Spanish Vertigo who held the Alfred A Scott memorial trophy for the third time in 2023. He once again gave Michelin tyres yet another proud moment when he took the top spot on the podium at the Scott Time and Observation Trial at the weekend. Organized by the Richmond Motor Club, the Scott Trial has a strong sporting heritage covering over 100 years and is unique in the fact that the riders time and observation score are calculated together to find the overall winner.

The event is based around Reeth, and starts and ends high on the North Yorkshire moors above the old market town of Richmond on the Marske road. The weather was ideally suited for the riders with a very cold but sunny day as they tackled the single lap course covering 76 sections over the 80-mile course. Jonathan Richardson (Montesa) who finished in 11th position, set the fastest time of 05.12.27 and in second place the Best Newcomer award winner Harry Hemingway (Beta) was the best on observation losing a mere 25 marks.

The top three finishers Jack Price (Vertigo), Harry Hemingway (Beta) and Billy Green (Scorpa) all chose to compete on Michelin trials tyres to secure their positions on the podium as did Vertigo who won the manufactures trophy with Price, Richard Sadler and Alfie Lampkin in the three-man team. Indeed over 75% of the entry of the 182 starters chose Michelin for the action, a testament to the quality of these superior tyres in the sport of motorcycle trials and the toughest of them all, the Scott Trial.

Jack Price: “This was one of the toughest challenges I have encountered over the Yorkshire Moors at the Scott Trial. The very cold day suited me and I was able to put my game plan into play of concentrating on my observation score whilst also keeping an eye on the time. I felt good from the very start and soon settled into a rhythm where I was enjoying my riding. I had a very trouble-free day as the Vertigo never missed a beat and I rode at a pace I was comfortable with. As always, my Michelin tyres were at there very best with no punctures despite the nature of the rugged and demanding terrain. In the sections when I was fighting to keep my feet-up they performed beyond what I expected with superb feedback. A huge thank you everyone who makes this super day happen and to my super support crew.”
