08/09/23 - JEAN-PHILIPPE LERDA CLEANED THE FIRST DAY VINTAGE

Homegrown heroes took control on the first day of 2023 FIM Trial Vintage Trophy competition at the ski resort of Auron, high in the French Alps, as the FIM Trial des Nations (TdN) weekend got under way with a distinctly historical flavour.

Now in its second year following a successful debut event at the 2022 TdN at Monza in Italy, up for grabs are the FIM Trial Vintage Trophy for best overall performance on a vintage motorcycle and the FIM Trial Vintage Motorcycle Trophy for best performance on an authentic vintage motorcycle.

The first edition saw Philippe Berlatier, who across his career helped steer France to five TdN titles, come out on top in both categories, but after close of play today he currently sits second on his Bultaco behind Yamaha rider and fellow countryman Jean-Philippe Lerda with Fantic-mounted Franck Olivier completing a French one-two-three.

With fine weather adding to the friendly atmosphere and strong sense of nostalgia, man-made sections constructed from carefully positioned rocks bookended a twelve-section course featuring a mixture of hazards in a dry riverbed and plotted on a steep, loose hillside.

Organised by Moto Club de La Gaude in conjunction with the FIM, the event is open to all twin-shock motorcycles with a period-appropriate blue Trophy route and a less demanding green Support class route. Results are moderated according to a rider’s age, not the age of the machine.

With a good entry of twenty-five riders taking on the Trophy route, there is a strong international contingent on a real mix of machinery pushing for a podium position with Belgian Eric Verkenne (Yamaha), Eduardo Alvarez Blanco (Fantic) and Diego Urreta (Fantic) from Spain, French rider Michel Petitdemange (OSSA) and Britain’s Robin Luscombe (BSA) completing the top eight.

French riders are also filling the top three positions in the Support class with Julien Berthier (Bultaco) leading Pascal Benis (Kawasaki) and Thierry Lerda (Honda).

JEAN-PHILIPPE LERDA GIRA A ZERO NEL PRIMO GIORNO VINTAGE

Gli eroi della nazione ospitante hanno trionfato nel primo giorno della competizione FIM Trial Vintage Trophy 2023 nella località sciistica di Auron, nelle Alpi francesi, inaugurando il fine settimana FIM Trial des Nations (TdN), con un sapore decisamente storico.

Giunto al secondo anno dopo il debutto al TdN 2022 a Monza in Italia, in palio ci sono il FIM Trial Vintage Trophy per la migliore prestazione complessiva su una moto d'epoca e il FIM Trial Vintage Motorcycle Trophy per la più autentica moto d'epoca.

La prima edizione ha visto Philippe Berlatier, che nel corso della sua carriera ha contribuito a portare la Francia a cinque titoli TdN, uscire vincitore in entrambe le categorie, ma dopo la chiusura dei giochi oggi è attualmente secondo sulla sua Bultaco dietro al pilota Yamaha e connazionale Jean -Philippe Lerda con Franck Olivier in sella alla Fantic a completare un uno-due-tre francese.

Con il bel tempo che si aggiunge all'atmosfera amichevole e al forte senso di nostalgia, le sezioni artificiali costruite con rocce accuratamente posizionate al termine di un percorso di dodici sezioni, caratterizzato da un letto di fiume asciutto e tracciato su un pendio abbastanza ripido.

Organizzato dal Moto Club de La Gaude in collaborazione con la FIM, l'evento è aperto a tutte le motociclette due-ammortizzatori con un percorso blu adatto al periodo per la classe Vintage (Trofeo) e un percorso verde meno impegnativo della classe Support. I risultati vengono modificati in base all'età del pilota, non all'età della moto.

Niente male la partecipazione di venticinque piloti sul percorso del Trofeo. Alle spalle dei tre transalpini un vero mix di moto e piloti di varie nazioni che hanno lottato per una posizione sul podio. Dal belga Eric Verkenne (Yamaha), poi Eduardo Alvarez Blanco (Fantic) e Diego Urreta ( Fantic) dalla Spagna, il francese Michel Petitdemange (OSSA) e il britannico Robin Luscombe (BSA) a completare i primi otto.

Tre italiani in gara. Franco Ronconi (Fantic) il migliore piazzatosi al decimo posto, quindi Enzo Afri (Guzzi) al 12-esimo e Fabrizio Anania (Fantic) al 21-esimo.

I piloti francesi occupano anche le prime tre posizioni nella classe Support con Julien Berthier (Bultaco) davanti a Pascal Benis (Kawasaki) e Thierry Lerda (Honda).
