12/06/22 - SOON BOUNCED BACK OF BOU BUT BUSTO IS BEHIND ONLY ONE POINT

After slipping to a shock defeat on the first day of the opening round of the 2022 Hertz FIM Trial World Championship, defending champion Toni Bou (Montesa) fired straight back to reclaim the top spot today – but the victory hung in the balance until the very last section of the final lap.

The rider who pushed him all the way to the end of day two of the TrialGP of Spain at L’Hospitalet de L’Infant was yesterday’s winner Jaime Busto (Vertigo) who has started the season in the best form of his career.

In the TrialGP Women and Trial2 categories Emma Bristow (Sherco) and Pablo Suarez (Montesa) completed double weekend wins while David Fabian (Beta) came out top in Trial3.

With three sections made harder for all classes following yesterday’s event and the blazing Spanish sun beaming down all day, fitness and finesse were called for in equal measure.

At the age of 35, Bou is 11 years older than his fellow Spaniard and he needed to draw on all the experience of 15 years at the top to beat a rival who is displaying incredible maturity and the ability to soak up pressure – and there was no shortage of pressure today with just one mark separating the winning pair after the full 24 sections.

Bou led Busto by one mark following the opening lap on a total of three but an early maximum on section two on the second lap when he momentarily stopped between two huge steps handed the younger man a four-point advantage which he briefly held before he incurred a five of his own on the rocky, near vertical banks of section four.

The pair then slugged it out at the front through a super-tense final eight section with both adding a couple more marks to their totals with Bou ending on 10 to Busto’s 11.

“I didn’t start the season with the best day yesterday,” said Bou, “but today I was riding well. I made a mistake and stopped at section two on the second lap but it’s amazing to start with a second and first place here in Tarragona.”

Just to underline their dominance, former champion Adam Raga (TRRS) was third on 32 and the veteran was 11 clear of fourth-placed Jorge Casales (Scorpa) and 17 ahead of Gaabriel Marcelli (Montesa) who completed the all-Spanish top five.

British lioness Bristow made it a dazzling double today in TrialGP Women with a dominant performance as once again Berta Abellan (Scorpa) emerged as her main competition – although the Spaniard was soundly beaten.

Bristow, who lost her world title last year after seven consecutive crowns, parted with two marks on the opening lap to lead Abellan by two before moving up a gear on the second lap and staying clean as her rival added an additional 12 to her total.

“I felt like I was riding well today and didn’t really make many mistakes,” said Emma. “I had a good feeling with the bike and two out of two is a dream start to the championship.”

A close fourth yesterday, Italy’s Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta) completed the podium with her total of 31 good enough to finish two marks ahead of yesterday’s third-placed finisher Naomi Monnier (GASGAS) from France before a sizeable gap back to German rider Vivian Wachs (TRRS) and Norwegian Huldeborg Barkved (GASGAS).

That’s six different nationalities on five different marques in the top six – well they do say variety is the spice of life!

There was another dynamite double in the Trial2 class where Suarez made it two wins on the trot – but Britain’s Jack Peace (Sherco) made him fight for it every inch of the way.

A phenomenal opening lap of just one gave the Spaniard a seven-mark advantage over Peace – last year’s Trial2 runner-up – and Norway’s Sondre Haga (Beta) at the halfway stage but it was almost all-change at the top on lap two.

On his second circuit Suarez appeared to tighten up and a couple of maximums and a three contributed to his final trial total of 17 and he only took the victory on a tie-break after rock-solid Peace added just an extra nine to his score.

“It has been an amazing weekend for me,” said Suarez. “The second lap today was not so good but I managed to keep the lead. I’m so happy.”

Haga also suffered a dip in form and he was lucky to make the podium for the second time over the weekend with his final total of 24 only one better than Britain’s Billy Green (Scorpa) who took fourth on a tie-break from Hugo Dufrese (Vertigo).

Even riders at this level suffer from first-day nerves and Czech teenager David Fabian (Beta) saw his hopes of victory yesterday in Trial3 evaporate on the opening lap. However, he secured third on Saturday with a sensational second lap and carried this momentum into today.

Tied with Saturday’s winner Harry Hemingway (Beta) on two marks after a close and competitive opening lap, Fabian stayed cool and collected on lap two and added another couple to his total to claim a career-first win at this level as the British rider racked up a further 13.

“It’s my first win so it feels great,” said Fabian. “Today was very good for me – it was super-hot and the sections were very hard so I’m super-happy with my riding.”

Following the disappointment of narrowly missing out on a podium on his series debut, Jamie Galloway (TRRS) bounced back to make it two British riders on the box with a total of 28 to take third from Harry’s younger brother George (Beta) who finished on 35 after dropping 11 marks in the final three sections.

The best trial riders on the planet now have just a few days to regroup before round two is staged on June 17-19 with the TrialGP of Andorra, held high in the Pyrenees around the scenic town of Sant Julià.

PRONTA RIVINCITA DI BOU MA BUSTO E' DIETRO DI UN SOLO PUNTO!

Dopo essere incappato in una sconfitta scioccante il primo giorno del round di apertura del Campionato mondiale di trial Hertz FIM 2022, il campione in carica Toni Bou (Montesa) ha risposto rivendicando il primo posto oggi, ma la vittoria è stata in bilico fino all'ultima zona dell'ultimo giro.

Il pilota che lo ha spinto fino alla fine della seconda giornata del TrialGP di Spagna a L'Hospitalet de L'Infant è stato il vincitore di ieri Jaime Busto (Vertigo) che ha iniziato la stagione nella migliore forma della sua carriera.

Nelle categorie TrialGP Women e Trial2 Emma Bristow (Sherco) e Pablo Suarez (Montesa) hanno ottenuto doppie vittorie nel fine settimana, mentre David Fabian (Beta) ha vinto in Trial3.

Tre sezioni rese più difficili per tutte le classi dopo l'evento di ieri e ancora sole cocente spagnolo per tutto il giorno, quindi gara dura dal punto di vista fisico.

All'età di 35 anni, Bou con 11 anni in più del suo connazionale spagnolo, ha dovuto attingere a tutta l'esperienza di 15 anni al vertice per battere un rivale che sta crescendo come maturità e capacità di contenere la pressione.

Bou ha terminato distanziando di un solo punto Busto: 10 a 11. I due si sono alternati al comando della gara rendendola incerta fino alla fine.

“Ieri non ho iniziato la stagione con la giornata migliore”, ha detto Bou, “ma oggi stavo guidando bene. Ho commesso un errore e mi sono fermato alla sezione due al secondo giro, ma è fantastico iniziare con un secondo e un primo posto qui a Tarragona”.

Giusto per sottolineare il loro dominio, l'ex campione Adam Raga (TRRS) oggi è terzo con 32 punti,davanti a Jorge Casales (Scorpa) e Gabriele Marcelli (Montesa) per una top five tutta spagnola.

Un po' meglio Grattarola che risale all'ottavo posto ma che conferma di non aver particolarmente gradito percorso e zone. Conferma di Petrella alla ricerca di esperienza in questa imponente classe del mondiale.

La leonessa britannica Bristow ha completato la doppietta nel TrialGP Women con una prestazione dominante, davanti ancora una volta alla spagnola Berta Abellan (Scorpa), la sua unica vera antagonista.

Bristow, che ha perso il suo titolo mondiale l'anno scorso dopo sette corone consecutive, si è guadagnata un vantaggio di due punti nel primo giro su Abellan, per poi girare a zero nella seconda tornata, quando la sua rivale ha aggiunto altri 12 errori al suo totale.

"Mi sentivo come se stessi guidando bene oggi e non ho davvero commesso molti errori", ha detto Emma. “Ho avuto un buon feeling con la moto e due su due è un inizio di campionato da sogno.”

Quarta ieri, l'azzurra Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta) ha completato il podio con un totale di 31 punti, due punti davanti alla francese Naomi Monnier (GASGAS), terza di ieri. Staccate dietro la tedesca Vivian Wachs (TRRS) e la norvegese Huldeborg Barkved (GASGAS).

Altre due italiane in gara: Martina Gallieni (TRRS) e Alessia Bacchetta (Gas Gas) hanno concluso all'11° e 12° posto rispettivamente.

C'è stata un'altra doppietta esplosiva nella classe Trial2 in cui Suarez ha ottenuto due vittorie al trotto, ma il britannico Jack Peace (Sherco) lo ha fatto penare fino all'ultimo.

Un fenomenale giro di apertura di un solo punto ha dato allo spagnolo un vantaggio di sette punti su Peace - secondo classificato nella Trial2 dell'anno scorso - e sul norvegese Sondre Haga (Beta), ma al secondo giro tutto è cambiato.

Suarez con un paio di cinque e un tre ha alzato il suo score, portandolo a 17 punti finali, ma la vittoria non gli è sfuggita grazie al tie-break con un Peace molto regolare, capace di soli nove errori in più al suo punteggio.

"È stato un weekend fantastico per me", ha detto Suarez. “Il secondo giro di oggi non è stato così buono ma sono riuscito a mantenere il comando. Sono così felice.

Anche Haga ha subito un calo di forma dopo metà gara ed è stato fortunato a salire sul podio per la seconda volta nel fine settimana con il suo totale finale di 24: solo uno migliore del britannico Billy Green (Scorpa) al quarto posto grazie al tie-break con Hugo Dufrese (Vertigo).

Altri italiani non hanno sfigurato in una categoria che annovera ben 37 piloti, tutti di ottimo livello, per cui un cinque in più - con il sempre applicato male nostop - può significare diverse posizioni. Gianluca Tournour (Gas Gas) è stato il migliore e ha chiuso al settimo posto. Lorenzo Gandola (Beta) dopo un primo giro vicino al podio è stato condizionato da problemi meccanici, scivolando al 12° posto. In zona punti Carlalberto Rabino (Beta) e appena fuori Mattia Spreafico (Vertigo).

Dopo essersi assicurato il terzo posto ieri l'adolescente ceco David Fabian (Beta) è tornato per fare tesoro degli errori e non rioeterli più.

A pari merito con il vincitore di sabato Harry Hemingway (Beta) con soli due puntial giro di boa, Fabian è rimasto calmo e ha aggiunto un altro paio di punti nel secondo giro, ottenendo ka sua prima vittoria a questo livello mentre il pilota britannico ha accumulato altri 13 errori.

"È la mia prima vittoria, quindi è fantastico", ha detto Fabian. "Oggi è stato molto bello per me: faceva molto caldo e le sezioni erano molto difficili, quindi sono super felice della mia guida."

Dopo la delusione di aver perso per un soffio il podio al suo debutto in serie, Jamie Galloway (TRRS) ci è salito oggi con un totale di 28.

Bene tra gli italiani in gara Giacomo Brunisso (Beta) al quinto posto. Poi Mirko Pedretti (Beta) si è piazzato nono. Prima esperienza mondiale e grosse difficoltà di ambientamento al regolamento nostop per Alessandro Ame (TRRS) 23°.

Il Trial Circus ora si sposta per il prossimo week-end , il 17-19 giugno, nel Principato d'Andorra sui Pirenei nella cittadina di Sant Julià.
