03/05/23 - Scottish pre-65: two riders cleaned all the 60 sections!

Dan Thorpe (Triumph) had to use the time tie-break to beat Gary MacDonald (Triumph) in the Scottish Pre-65, held this year on 28 and 29 April, with the usual departure from Kinlochleven. Both did not leave a single dab on the 60 overall sections of the two days of competition. Third Dan Clark with one penalty.

Scores that we have already taken as an example to show how it is not shameful to discover that someone is cleaning all the sections. It absolutely does not affect the work done by the tracers Every year in this classic that precedes the famous Six Days, the maximum limit of 200 riders is reached on the same day on which entries open and it needs the ballot to determine the lucky ones.

Yet the sections are almost the same every year, with some variations in the order of execution. Those who continue to go there really want to improve where they went wrong in the previous edition. And if the first in the class compete for the podium with scores from the fingers of one hand, for the last the goal remains to snatch a few "3s" every now and then, because the lap is quite tough, too.

It's amazing how many Pre-65 bikes there are. Almost all derived from scrambler or road models. Very few those created specifically for Trials. Motorcycles also of many cubic centimeters and of considerable weight, but which in the face of natural sections that are always uphill manage to play their part and give satisfaction to those who ride them.

There are also many young pilots among the riders, people not yet born at the time of those models, yet willing to get involved, modifying their riding style, at least for the two days.

Once again the best female competitor was English Donna Fox on her BSA Bantham: with 9 penalties she finished in twentieth place.

No Italians at the start. Too bad, our 4-speed Guzzi deserve to appear in this ranking. Who knows if in 2024 ...

Scottish pre-65: due piloti hanno girato a zero su 60 zone!

Dan Thorpe (Triumph) ha dovuto avvalersi del tie-break tempo di gara per avere ragione di Gary MacDonald (Triumph) nella Scottish Pre-65, disputata quest'anno il 28 e 29 aprile, con la solita partenza da Kinlochleven. Entrambi non hanno lasciato neanche un piede sulle 60 zone complessive delle due giornate di gara. Terzo Dan Clarck con una penalità.

Punteggi che abbiamo già preso come esempio per fare capire come non sia vergognoso scoprire che qualcuno gira a zero. Non va assolutamente a inficiare il lavoro svolto dai tracciatori. Tutti gli anni in questa classica che precede la famosa Sei Giorni, il tetto massimo di 200 piloti viene raggiunto il giorno stesso in cui si aprono le iscrizioni e si deve procedere al ballottaggio per determinare i fortunati.

Eppure le zone sono tutti gli anni pressochè le stesse, con qualche variazione sull'ordine di esecuzione. Chi continua ad andarci vuole proprio migliorarsi laddove nell'edizione precedente aveva sbagliato. E se i primi della classe si giocano il podio con punteggi da dita di una mano, per gli ultimi l'obiettivo rimane strappare qualche “3” ogni tanto, perchè il giro di trasferimento non è uno scherzo.

E' incredibile quante moto Pre-65 ci siano. Quasi tutte derivate da modelli scrambler o stradali. Pochissime quelle nate appositamente per il Trial. Moto anche di tanti centimetri cubici e di peso rilevante, ma che di fronte a zone naturali sempre in salita riescono a giocare la loro parte e dare soddisfazioni a chi le guida.

Tra i piloti anche molti giovani, gente non ancora nata all'epoca di quelle cavalcature, eppure disposta a mettersi in gioco, modificando la propria guida, almeno per i due giorni.

Ancora una volta la migliore concorrente femminile è risultata l'inglese Donna Fox sulla sua BSA Bantham: con 9 penalità ha chiuso al ventesimo posto.

Nessun italiano al via. Peccato, le nostre Guzzi 4 marce meriterebbero di comparire in questa classifica. Chissà se nel 2024 ...
