05/02/23 -Bou claims his sixteenth X-Trial Barcelona win

Toni Bou (Repsol Honda Trial Team) celebrated a century of X-Trial World Championship appearances with his 74th win and a near-perfect start at the 2023 season.

Bou was made to wait until the final section of the night to take his sixteenth win in the Catalan capital, where Jaime Busto (Gas Gas) made a critical error that allowed Gabriel Marcelli to steal second and a 1-2 finish for Repsol Honda.

The biggest story of the opening two Rounds was the elimination of Adam Raga, ending his run of 43 consecutive podiums in a run that stretched back to Sheffield 2014.

Section One proved decisive, helping Jaime Busto to victory in Round One and the first World Championship bonus point. Meanwhile Toni Bou was left in a three-way tie for third at the end of the opening Round after his first failure there, but a lap later a single mark score saw him through to the Final and with his first series bonus point as top seed from Round Two.

Gabriel Marcelli also made his second ride count: after suffering with injury woes and a flat tyre in his opening outing, a superb 2-mark second lap sent him through to the Final alongside his teammate.

Behind, Jeroni Fajardo marked his return to the World Championship with fifth as a Wild Card, finishing a single mark ahead of Benoit Bincaz and Toby Martyn. Frenchman's got sixth place thanks to his Round Two better performance. Sondre Haga (Gas Gas) took eighth ahead of Matteo Grattarola, visibly struggling with injury on his Vertigo debut.

Toni Bou (1st): “ This is the best way to start the defence of my title, especially at home in front of the Barcelona crowd. Things got better and better because I started with a five in a Section One that was really decisive. Thankfully in the Final I rode at a very high level, and the team’s great work has its result.”

Gabriel Marcelli (2nd): “ Opening the season on the podium is great, especially considering that I strained my right leg injury in the first section, which could have been really costly. In the second Round I made a big step forward that sent me into the Final. It is great to be back on the podium here in Barcelona and now the target is consistency.”

Jaime Busto (3rd): “I am satisfied with this opening podium. I felt really good on the bike in my first official outing with Gas Gas and I started very well, winning the first Round. In the second Round things were a little tougher, but enough to make the Final. And making the podium is the main thing.”

Meanwhile in the Barcelona Women’s Trophy, Emma Bristow (Sherco) took her third win ahead of Naomi Monnier (Gas Gas) and Berta Abellán (Scorpa) who finished six marks behind.

The FIM X-Trial World Championship next heads to Wiener Neustadt on 11th March.

Bou inarrestabile anche nella "Cattedrale"

Toni Bou (Repsol Honda Trial Team) ha festeggiato un secolo di presenze nell'X-Trial World Championship con la sua 74esima vittoria e un inizio quasi perfetto nella stagione 2023.

Bou ha dovuto aspettare fino alla parte finale della serata per ottenere la sua sedicesima vittoria nella capitale catalana. Jaime Busto (Gas Gas) ha commesso un errore che ha permesso a Gabriel Marcelli di rubargli il secondo posto e un 1-2 per la Repsol Honda.

La sorpresa più importante dei primi due round è stata l'eliminazione di Adam Raga, che ha concluso la sua serie di 43 podi consecutivi a partire da Sheffield 2014.

La sezione uno si è rivelata decisiva, aiutando Jaime Busto alla vittoria nel primo round e al primo punto bonus del campionato del mondo. Nel frattempo Toni Bou è stato lasciato in un pareggio a tre per il terzo posto alla fine del round di apertura dopo il suo primo "5" proprio lì. Ma nel secondo round, grazie a un passaggio ad "1" è passato alla finale con il suo primo punto bonus della serie e come testa di serie.

Anche Gabriel Marcelli ha fatto valere la sua seconda manche: dopo aver sofferto di infortuni e una gomma a terra nella sua prima uscita, un superbo secondo giro di 2 punti lo ha portato in finale insieme al suo compagno di squadra.

Dietro, Jeroni Fajardo ha segnato il suo ritorno al Campionato del Mondo con il quinto posto come Wild Card, finendo un solo punto davanti a Benoit Bincaz e Toby Martyn. Il francese ha ottenuto il sesto posto grazie alla sua prestazione migliore nel secondo Round. Sondre Haga (Gas Gas) è arrivato ottavo davanti al nostro Matteo Grattarola, visibilmente acciaccato per un infortunio in allenamento al suo debutto in Vertigo.

Toni Bou (1°): “Questo è il modo migliore per iniziare la difesa del mio titolo, soprattutto in casa davanti al pubblico di Barcellona. Le cose sono andate sempre meglio perché ho iniziato con un cinque alla zona uno che è stata davvero decisiva. Per fortuna in Finale ho corso ad un livello molto alto e il grande lavoro del team ha avuto il suo risultato.”

Gabriel Marcelli (2°): “Aprire la stagione sul podio è fantastico, soprattutto considerando che ho subito un infortunio alla gamba destra nella prima sezione, che avrebbe potuto essere molto costoso. Nella seconda manche ho fatto un grande passo avanti che mi ha mandato in finale. È fantastico tornare sul podio qui a Barcellona e ora l'obiettivo è la costanza”.

Jaime Busto (3°): “Sono soddisfatto di questo primo podio. Mi sono trovato davvero bene in moto nella mia prima uscita ufficiale con Gas Gas e sono partito molto bene, vincendo il primo Round. Nel secondo Round le cose sono state un po' più dure, ma abbastanza per arrivare in Finale. E salire sul podio è la cosa principale.”

Nel frattempo, nel Barcellona Women's Trophy, Emma Bristow (Sherco) ha ottenuto la sua terza vittoria davanti a Naomi Monnier (Gas Gas) e Berta Abellán (Scorpa) che hanno chiuso a sei lunghezze di distacco. Appena 3 punti in più per Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta).

Il FIM X-Trial World Championship si ritroverà a Wiener Neustadt l'11 marzo.
