13/07/23 - SESTRIERE, 20 YEARS LATER, STILL IN THE OLYMPUS OF TRIAL

Sestriere 20 years later. In just over a week, the Italian round of the world championship will be in the famous Piedmontese tourist resort, theater of the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Phototrial was present in 2003 and offers you some shots of the time. Curious how some of the protagonists of that distant moment, such as Toni Bou, Adam Raga and Jeroni Fajardo, are still in the race today, others are linked to the environment, covering other roles.

Saturday 12th July 2003

Lampkin above all! On sections apparently quite difficult, the former champion wins without any rispect for his rivals! He cleaned the second loop, scoring in total only 6 points, against of the 24 of his chaser Fujinami! In third Freixa not distant from the Japanese. Raga arrived fourth. Great organization and great success of public: the largest number in this season seen on Saturday!

Sunday 13th July 2003

Fujigas replied soon! Fujinami has not been discouraged by the great performance of Doug in the day before and attacked each section with confidence and security. Doug crashed in section 9 in the second loop, so he surrended to the Japanese. Cabestany recovered very well in the second loop and grasped the podium. Freixa in fouth. 20,000 people attended in the two days!

From the photos of that year it emerges how massive the public response was. What the Moto Club Gentlemen's of Pinerolo - organizer again - hopes is that there will be as much attention next 22 and 23 July: the whole world of the Italian Trial expects it.

Certainly times have changed, with "social" images and videos enter the homes of all enthusiasts more quickly but the vision live, the possibility of approaching the champions for an autograph, for a selfie, for a greeting, for a compliment is an emotion that the true trialist cannot give up.

On Friday there will be a special meeting session with the riders who will sign autographs, followed by a trial bicycle exhibition with the super champion Simone Titli and then the opening of a museum with the best models of past years.

Then two days of competition with 12 zones to be repeated twice. As you can see from the map, there are two groups of zones, plus an indoor style at the start. With the shuttles and a few steps on foot you can see them all.

A line of what was traced twenty years ago, when Dougie Lampkin won on Saturday and Takahisa Fujinami on Sunday.

The two races this year are the most complete of this championship because all the classes into which the world championship is currently divided are present. In each at least one Italian rider is present and can play a leading role. Below are the updated league standings.

But the Italian public has always stood out for applauding the best rider, regardless of his nationality or his bike and we are certain that he will be able to confirm this once again.

SESTRIERE, 20 ANNI DOPO, ANCORA NELL'OLIMPO DEL TRIAL

Sestriere 20 anni dopo. Tra poco più di una settimana la tappa del mondiale italiana sarà nella famosa località turistica piemontese, teatro delle Olimpiadi invernali nel 2006.

Phototrial era presente nel 2003 e vi ripropone alcuni scatti dell'epoca. Curioso come alcuni dei piloti protagonisti di quel lontano momento, come Toni Bou, Adam Raga e Jeroni Fajardo, siano ancora in gara oggi, altri sono legati all'ambiente, ricoprendo altri ruoli.

Ecco quanto riportato da phototrial all'epoca:

Sabato 12 luglio 2003.

Lampkin sopra tutti!Su zone apparentemente abbastanza dure, il campione in carica vince senza alcun rispetto per i suoi rivali! Gira a zero nel secondo giro, totalizzando in tutto 6 punti, contro i 24 del suo inseguitore Fujinami! Terzo Freixa non distante dal giapponese. Raga quarto. Grande organizzazione e grande successo di pubblico: il piu' numeroso di tutta la stagione al sabato!

Domenica 13 luglio 2003.

Fujigas replica subito! Fujinami non si è scoraggiato per la grande prestazione di Doug nel giorno precedente e ha attaccato ogni zona con fiducia e sicurezza. Doug è caduto alla zona 9 del secondo giro, cosi' si è arreso al giapponese. Cabestany ha recuperato bene nel secondo giro e ha agguantato il podio. Quarto Freixa. Un pubblico di 20.000 persone nei due giorni!

Dalle foto di quell'anno emerge quanto sia stata massiccia la risposta del pubblico. Quello che spera il Moto Club Gentlemen's di Pinerolo - nuovamente organizzatore - è che ci sia altrettanta attenzione il prossimo 22 e 23 luglio: tutto il mondo del Trial italiano se lo aspetta.

Certamente i tempi sono cambiati, coi "social" immagini e video entrano più rapidamente nelle case di tutti gli appassionati ma la visione del vero, la possibilità di avvicinare i fuoriclasse per un autografo, per un selfie, per un saluto, per un complimento è un'emozione a cui il vero trialista non può rinunciare.

Al venerdì è prevista una sessione apposita di incontro coi piloti che firmeranno autografi, seguirà un'esibizione di trialbici col super campione Simone Titli e quindi l'apertura di un Museo con le migliori cavalcature degli anni passati.

Poi due giorni di gara con 12 zone da ripetersi due volte. Come vedete dalla cartina due sono i gruppi di zone, più una stile indoor alla partenza. Con le navette e qualche passo a piedi si potranno vedere tutte.

Una falsariga di quanto era stato tracciato vent'anni fa, quando a vincere furono Dougie Lampkin sabato e Takahisa Fujinami domenica.

Le due gare di quest'anno sono le più complete di questo campionato perchè sono presenti tutte le classi in cui si suddivide attualmente il mondiale. In ognuna almeno un pilota italiano è presente e può giocare un ruolo di primo piano. Sotto ci sono le classifiche di campionato aggionate.

Ma il pubblico nostrano si è sempre distinto per applaudire il pilota più bravo, a prescindere dalla sua nazionalità o dalla sua moto e siamo certi che anche in quest'occasione lo potrà confermare.
