25/08/24 - BOU WON IN CAHORS AND CLINCHED HIS 18TH OUTDOOR TITLE

In the unlikely event of anyone requiring reminding, Toni Bou (Montesa) once again underlined his status as the most successful rider in the history of the sport when he secured his eighteenth consecutive Hertz FIM Trial World Championship title at today’s TrialGP of France, staged at Cahors in the south of the country.

While Bou’s wait to add to his collection of titles is over for another season, in TrialGP Women defending champion and series leader Emma Bristow (Sherco) tasted defeat for just the second time this season when she was beaten into second by Spanish rival Berta Abellan (Scorpa), although with just two scoring days left at the TrialGP of Spain in mid-September the British rider still holds a healthy ten-point advantage.

The battle for supremacy is also still not over in Trial2 where Britain’s Jack Peace (Sherco) extended his lead to twenty-one points with a solid third-placed finish behind first-time winner Gerard Trueba (Beta) from Spain with just the TrialGP of Spain to go while his compatriot George Hemingway (Beta), who successfully defended his Trial3 crown last time out in Belgium, signed off with his seventh win from eight starts.

Bou took command of the premier TrialGP class on the opening day of this year’s competition in Japan before sweeping the first five days of points-paying action and today’s victory – his ninth from ten events – means another entry into the Trial history books.

Despite picking up a maximum in the very first hazard on his opening lap, with the warm sun rapidly drying the sections following yesterday’s rain thirty-seven-year-old Bou looked completely at home on the big rocks and steep bankings of the quarry sections that comprised the first half of the lap and in the man-made sections that completed the course along the banks of the beautiful Lot river.

Leading on six plus a single time penalty that put him ten clear of his long-time rival and fellow Spaniard Adam Raga (Sherco) at the halfway stage, Bou required another seven marks and an additional time penalty on lap two, but still ended the day eight ahead of Jaime Busto (GASGAS) whose second lap total of just two when combined with his first lap score of twenty plus a time penalty put him nine clear of the battle for third position.

“It feels amazing,” said Bou. “I started today with a little mistake, but after that I rode my best. Thank you to all my team for working so hard – it has been one of the best seasons of my life.”

The final step on the podium was secured by Gabriel Marcelli (Montesa) by a mark from Raga with a cool clean on the very last section of the day.

Having announced her retirement from the sport’s top-flight at the end of the season, in her bid to make it ten titles in eleven years Bristow has led from the opening round, but she had no answer to Abellan today whose first lap of eight gave her a seven-mark lead over the reigning champion.

Bristow fought back with a second-lap total of eight, but Abellan kept her cool and added a further eleven to her score which saw her claim a sixth career win at the highest level by a slender four marks. Italy’s Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta) ended the day in third, a distant twenty-one marks behind, before another sizeable gap back to the Czech Republic’s Denisa Pechackova (TRRS) and Naomi Monnier (Montesa) from France.

“I am very, very happy because I have enjoyed the sections a lot today,” said Abellan. “It’s been a great Trial and it feels fantastic to take the victory.”

Super-consistent all season, Peace made it six consecutive podiums in Trial2 with a calm and collected third-placed finish and with his closest title rival Arnau Farré (Sherco) from Spain finishing one place further back the twenty-four-year-old – who has won four times this year – actually extended his advantage.

On the day there was no stopping Trueba who sat second at the halfway stage on a score of four, one behind his fellow countryman Alex Canales (Sherco) and one ahead of Farré and former champion Sondre Haga (GASGAS) from Norway with Peace on six. Putting the pressure on his rivals with a second-lap total of two, Trueba took the verdict on a tie-break after Haga on the electric motorcycle added just one more mark to his score with Peace, who also parted with a solitary dab on his second lap, climbing to third to tighten his grip on the title.

“It’s been an amazing day,” said Trueba. “I have been working a lot to achieve this – I got my first podium some months ago in Andorra and today I got my first victory!”

Having secured back-to-back Trial3 titles at the previous round in Belgium last month, Hemingway put the seal on a highly successful season with a clear-cut win ahead of home hero Pablo Echene (Beta) and Pawel Ryncarz (TRRS) from Poland.

Ending the opening lap six clear of Ryncarz on a score of seven, Hemingway needed just two more marks over the second half of the event to win by thirteen as Echene reeled in the Pole to record a career-best second by three clear marks.

“I’ve absolutely loved every moment of this weekend,” said Hemingway. “I knew that coming into this year it wouldn’t be easy to win, but I got the job done. The first title felt good and the second one feels even better.”

The 2024 Hertz FIM Trial World Championship concludes next month with the TrialGP of Spain – which also includes the 2024 FIM Trial Vintage Trophy competition – at Ripoll, running from 13-15 September.

BOU VINCE A CAHORS E PORTA A CASA IL SUO 18-ESIMO TITOLO OUTDOOR

Nell'improbabile eventualità che qualcuno avesse bisogno di ricordarlo, Toni Bou (Montesa) ha sottolineato ancora una volta il suo status di pilota di maggior successo nella storia di questo sport, assicurandosi il suo diciottesimo titolo consecutivo di Campionato del mondo Hertz FIM Trial al TrialGP di Francia di oggi, andato in scena a Cahors, nel sud del Paese.

Mentre l'attesa di Bou per aggiungere titoli alla sua collezione è finita per un'altra stagione, nel TrialGP femminile la campionessa in carica e leader delle serie Emma Bristow (Sherco) ha conosciuto la sconfitta solo per la seconda volta in questa stagione, battuta dalla rivale spagnola Berta Abellan (Scorpa). A soli due giorni dalla fine, col TrialGP di Spagna di metà settembre la campionessa britannica ha ancora un buon vantaggio di dieci punti.

La battaglia per il titolo anche nella Trial2 non è ancora finita, ma il britannico Jack Peace (Sherco) ha esteso il suo vantaggio a ventuno punti con un solido terzo posto dietro al nuovo vincitore Gerard Trueba (Beta) dalla Spagna mentre il suo connazionale George Hemingway (Beta), ha difeso con successo la sua corona Trial3 guadagnata in Belgio, siglando la sua settima vittoria su otto partenze.

Bou ha preso il comando della classe regina TrialGP dal giorno di apertura in Giappone e la vittoria di oggi - la sua nona su dieci eventi - significa un'altra entrata nei libri di storia del Trial.

Nonostante il cinque nella prima zona del suo primo giro, con il sole caldo che asciugava rapidamente le sezioni dopo la pioggia di ieri, il trentasettenne Bou sembrava completamente a suo agio sulle grandi rocce e sulle ripide scarpate delle sezioni della cava, e nei tratti artificiali che completavano il percorso lungo le rive del bellissimo fiume Lot.

In vantaggio con sei punti lasciati, ovvero dieci punti di vantaggio dal suo rivale di lunga data e connazionale Adam Raga (Sherco) a metà gara, Bou si è concesso altri sette punti e un'ulteriore penalità di tempo al secondo giro, concludendo davanti a Jaime Busto (GASGAS), il cui secondo giro totale di soli due errori, combinato con il punteggio del primo giro di venti più una penalità di tempo, gli ha permesso la piazza d'onore, con nove punti di vantaggio sulla terza posizione.

"È fantastico", ha detto Bou. “Oggi ho iniziato con un piccolo errore, ma poi ho fatto del mio meglio. Grazie a tutto il mio team per aver lavorato così duramente: è stata una delle migliori stagioni della mia vita."

Il gradino finale del podio è stato conquistato da Gabriel Marcelli (Montesa) grazie a un solo punto su Raga con un bello zero nell'ultima sezione della giornata.

Dopo aver annunciato il suo ritiro dalla massima serie sportiva alla fine della stagione, nel tentativo di conquistare dieci titoli in undici anni, la Bristow è stata in testa fin dal round di apertura, ma oggi non ha avuto ragione della Abellan, il cui primo giro di otto le ha subito datoun vantaggio di sette punti sulla campionessa in carica.

La Bristow ha reagito con un totale di otto errori al secondo giro, ma la spagnola ha mantenuto la calma e ha aggiunto altri undici al suo punteggio che l'ha vista ottenere la sesta vittoria in carriera ai massimi livelli, di soli quattro punti. La nostra Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta) ha concluso la giornata al terzo posto, a ventuno punti di distanza, con un altro notevole distacco dalla ceca Denisa Pechackova (TRRS) e dalla francese Naomi Monnier (Montesa).

"Sono molto, molto felice perché mi sono piaciute molto le sezioni di oggi", ha detto Abellan. "È stata una prova fantastica ed è stato fantastico conquistare la vittoria."

Super costante per tutta la stagione, Peace è salito per sei podi consecutivi nella Trial2 con un terzo posto, con un occhio al suo più vicino rivale per il titolo Arnau Farré (Sherco), tenuto una poizione più indietro.

Oggi non c'è stato modo di fermare Trueba , secondo a metà gara con un punteggio di quattro, uno dietro il suo connazionale Alex Canales (Sherco) e uno davanti a Farré e all'ex campione Sondre Haga (GASGAS) dalla Norvegia con Peace a sei. Con un totale di due punti al secondo giro, Trueba ha vinto al tie-break dopo che Haga sulla moto elettrica ha aggiunto solo un altro punto al suo punteggio e Peace è salito al terzo posto, rafforzando la sua corsa al titolo.

"È stata una giornata fantastica", ha detto Trueba. "Ho lavorato molto per raggiungere questo obiettivo: ho ottenuto il mio primo podio alcuni mesi fa ad Andorra e oggi ho ottenuto la mia prima vittoria!”

Dopo essersi assicurato due titoli consecutivi del Trial3 nel round precedente in Belgio il mese scorso, Hemingway ha messo il sigillo su una stagione di grande successo con una vittoria netta davanti all'eroe di casa Pablo Echene (Beta) e Pawel Ryncarz (TRRS) dalla Polonia .

Terminando il primo giro con sei punti di vantaggio su Ryncarz con un punteggio di sette, Hemingway ha lasciato altri due punti nella seconda metà dell'evento per vincere con un vantaggio di tredici. Echene ha ottenuto la piazza d'onore registrando il miglior secondo in carriera con tre punti netti. br />
"Ho amato ogni momento di questo fine settimana", ha detto Hemingway. "Sapevo che arrivare quest'anno non sarebbe stato facile vincere, ma ho portato a termine il lavoro. Il primo titolo mi è piaciuto ma il secondo è ancora meglio."

Il Campionato mondiale Hertz FIM Trial 2024 si concluderà il mese prossimo con il TrialGP di Spagna – che comprende anche la competizione FIM Trial Vintage Trophy 2024 – a Ripoll, in programma dal 13 al 15 settembre.
