From Press Release by MONTESA-HRC TRIAL TEAM

Spanish Trial Championship

1st round: Mancha Real (Jaén), 23.03.2003

Dougie Lampkin and Takahisa Fujinami take the first two positions.

Dougie Lampkin (Montesa-HRC Cota 315R) and Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa-HRC RTL 250) head the overall standing of the Spanish Trial Championship after the holding, this Sunday, of the first scoring round. This trial was somewhat soured by the protest of those who are in disagreement with the participation of foreign riders in this competition, which for the third consecutive year is qualified as Open and therefore admits riders of different nationalities.

Montesa-HRC considers that the sport, the championship and respect for the organisers and the public must prevail over any other idea. Montesa's three riders completed a course that the other participants abandoned after the first stage through zones that were quite difficult as a result of the rain that fell yesterday. Marc Freixa (Montesa-HRC) finished fifth.

Dougie Lampkin: “I feel bad about what has happened and for perhaps being the cause, but it's a question of rules. Apart from this, it has been a great trial, with a magnificent public. The zones were very skiddy and a single minute to overcome them seems to me to be much too tight”.

Takahisa Fujinami: “I was the first to open the zones and they were very slippery. Also, everything that went on put me out. I congratulate the organisers for the work they have done”.

Marc Freixa “I didn't feel at ease in either of the two laps. I did some good things but that's not enough. You have to keep on working”.

The second scoring round for the Spanish Championship will be contested in Manacor (Mallorca), on April 27. Prior to this, the first two Grand Prix of the World Championship will be held: that of Ireland (April 5 and 6 ) and that of Luxembourg, the following weekend.
